I get so geeked out over good deals, so needless to say, earlier this week I was on cloud nine.

After reading about Sunset Salsa on Kristen Sarra’s blog I’m Not a Tourist I Swear, I decided Mark and I needed to give it a shot. Located on Hudson River Park’s Pier 45, the completely free (yes FREE!) event every Tuesday evening begins with an hour of salsa lessons followed by an evening of dancing.

World renowned dance instructor and choreographer Franck Muhel led us in learning basic Salsa steps as we all watched and tried to catch on while also trying to look as smooth as he did.
Disclaimer: I have NO rhythm, so looking as smooth as Franck wasn’t going to happen, but I did learn the moves and had a blast dancing the night away alongside fellow New Yorkers. There were dancers from every level in the crowd, and that made it easy to let your guard down, let loose and just dance.
Following the hour-long lesson, we lesson-takers were joined by a ton of serious dancers who were ready to hit the 'dance floor' with us and show off our moves. Men swung and spun their partners while the DJ blasted Salsa tunes over his speakers. Whether dancing or simply sitting back and observing the scene, the entire park seemed to enjoy the atmosphere provided by Sunset Salsa.
Is there anything better than dancing on a pier filled with smiling faces and laughter while watching the sun set over NYC? I don’t think so.
After we were totally exhausted from dancing, we decided to take a walk through West Village and find somewhere to grab a quick dinner.
And that is when we stumbled upon Bayard’s Ale House (533 Hudson Street). The dark but charming little pub was the perfect place to cool down and enjoy great food after all of our dancing.

What drew us to Bayard’s Ale House, you ask??
Well, their chalkboard out front advertised their Taco Tuesday deal. And after spending the evening learning how to Salsa with Franck, naturally you're in the mood for tacos.
For just $5 you got their taco of the week (this week was a fried fish taco…so good) with rice and beans. Let me tell you, the only thing better than good tacos is good tacos for just $5.
Not only were the tacos delicious and full of flavor, but their other food was great too! Mark said his French fries were “maybe the best he’d ever eaten.”
Bayard's Ale House was a great place to cap off a great night.
So there you have it, a wonderful evening in the best city in the world for a grand total of just $5!
