Fun Finds at the Brooklyn Flea

Even though we're 1,000-plus miles away from Kansas, today we felt right at home at the Brooklyn Flea.
From a 1993 K-State Copper Bowl hoodie to an old 'State of Kansas Tourguide Map,' Mark and I had a ton of fun scavenger hunting our way through the Brooklyn Flea for anything Kansas themed we could find.
And while we were searching for all the Kansas things, we found so, so much more!
Let me tell you, there is something for EVERYONE at the Brooklyn Flea! Every single vendor was different and unique in their own way. Some sold records, some sold old license plates, old American flags, vintage toys, buttons, pins, prints, antique furniture, bags, clothing, jewelry - you name it and someone had it.
On Sundays, the Brooklyn Flea is located at the Manhattan Bridge Archway Plaza in DUMBO, Brooklyn (this is the one we went to), while on Saturdays it's located at 176 Lafayette Ave. in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.

Along with the nearly 80 vendors selling various items, there are also numerous tents and trucks selling specialty foods. We decided to split Home Frite's french fries (we got the regular fries with curry ketchup for $8) and a Ramen Burger (photo below) from - the original - Ramen Burger by Keizo Shimamoto for $10.
The fries were amazing, definitely the best fries I've eaten in quite some time, and the curry ketchup brought me right back to my days of living in Germany. I would definitely eat at Home Frite again simply to try more of their mouth-watering dipping sauces!
The Ramen Burger, while totally Instagram worthy, wasn't as flavorful as I would have hoped. It was a lot fun to try, but I expected something different, something more exciting, from the ramen bun...especially for $10. I think it's worth a try if you're a hamburger burger fan, but with so many other options, the next time I'm at the Flea I'll probably give something new - Big Mozz Pizza or Bamboo Bites - a shot.
Overall, we spent about three hours checking out the vendors and eating lunch at the Brooklyn Flea. If you're visiting the city and want something fun to do, I would definitely recommend it!
On Sundays, the Brooklyn Flea is located not far from the entrance of the Brooklyn Bridge, so walking the bridge before/after visiting the flea or checking out Brooklyn Bridge Park (great views of NYC!) would make for an unforgettably fun day in New York City!
A bit of advice: come prepared with cash handy. Many of the vendors are cash-only, and you wouldn't want to miss out on a great deal by having to run to an ATM!

Coming to the city from a small town, it's nice to be reminded of home once in a while, and that's exactly what the Brooklyn Flea gave us this afternoon (I've added photos below of a few of our favorite Kansas finds).
If you've recently moved to NYC from afar, I hope your visit to the Brooklyn Flea leaves you with as many reminders of home as it did for us.
Oh, and P.S... You bet I'll be wearing this K-State sweatshirt on game days this fall - Go Cats!
